Automatic Power Factor Correction (APFC)
Capacitor panels (APFC panels) automatically improve the power factor of an electrical installation by switching capacitor banks in and out of the circuit based on real-time reactive power demand. This reduces the kVA demand from the utility and eliminates low power factor penalties on the electricity bill.
The heart of the system is a digital power factor controller that continuously monitors the network power factor and ambient harmonics. When the power factor drops below the set threshold, the controller switches on capacitor steps until the target PF is restored.
For installations with significant harmonic distortion, our APFC panels can be integrated with detuned filter reactors to protect capacitors from harmonic overloading and extend equipment life.
